 Who we are

Community of Spiritual Practice based in Soto Zen Buddhism, dedicated to studying and applying the Dharma Buddhist in every act of daily life, and to encourage the sense of community with all beings, focusing on cultivating the values of Wisdom and Compassion, and openness to interreligious dialogue.

Our Dharma-Teacher is Coen Roshi - from São Paulo - and we have the formal support of Dengaku-san - Monk-leader (Shuso) of Zen Association of Porto Alegre, Brasil - ViaZen, our Mother-Sangha.

General Information on Activities

Zazen - Zen style meditation, seated posture - in cushion, stool or chair.

Kinhin - Zen style meditation, walking slowly, in sync with breathing.

Kuyo Ceremony - Ceremony of dedication of the merits of our practices and prayers for the benefit of people, animals and other sentient beings, living or dead, healthy or sick, or in suffering. If you want to dedicate the ceremony to someone, just send the names to viazenzurich@gmail.com, stating whether it is alive or deceased.

Zazenkai - A traditional Zen Retreat is a practice of deep introspection and observation of himself. In a Zazenkai (short retreat), we practice the Noble Silence - speaking only the necessary during our activities. Throughout the day, we make various periods of sitting meditation (zazen) and walking meditation (Kinhin), activities in state of mindfulness (Samu), formal eating (Oryoki), religious services and reading sutras. We also share the Buddhist teachings to everyday life (Dharma) and our individual experiences (method Council). A Zazenkai is an excellent opportunity to deepen our practice, to the extent that we engage in silence and concentration. For a more enjoyable experience, we recommend some previous experience in meditation (not necessarily in Zen style).
